Duncan Scott Qualifies for World Championship Squad in Alloa
Duncan Scott, a prominent swimmer from Alloa, has been chosen to represent Team Great Britain at the upcoming FINA World Swimming Championships. The finals will be held in Fukuoka, Japan in July, where Scott will compete alongside four other University of Stirling swimmers in the prestigious event.
A Star on the Rise
This will mark Scott’s fourth appearance at the World Championships, with his last participation dating back to 2019. Reflecting on the upcoming competition, Scott shared his excitement, stating, “It’s been four years since the last one. This will be the first time since the Olympics that I’ve raced everyone in the world.” He sees this as an opportunity to gauge his international standing ahead of the next Olympics and face off against younger competitors he hasn’t raced before.
Scott’s journey in swimming began in Alloa when he joined the local swimming club at a young age. Over the years, he has made a name for himself in the sport, achieving remarkable success. In 2020, he became the most decorated British Olympian at a single Games, and in 2022, he set a record for the highest number of medals won at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
High Hopes and Hard Work
Steven Tigg, the head performance swim coach at the University of Stirling, expressed pride in the selection of five university-based athletes for the World Swimming Championships. He highlighted the exceptional performance of the swimmers at the British selection trials and emphasized the exciting opportunities presented by new talent entering the scene.
Looking ahead to the championships, Tigg emphasized the team’s focus on development and preparation for the future, particularly with an eye on the Paris Olympics next year. The team, including Scott and his fellow swimmers Katie Shanahan, Lucy Hope, Keanna MacInnes, and Jack McMillan, is gearing up for the intense competition and the chance to showcase their skills on the world stage.
