Pioneers in Forth Valley: Leading the Way for Nature Conservation
In an effort to inspire community action and conservation efforts in central Scotland, the Scottish Wildlife Trust is actively seeking pioneers for nature in the Forth Valley area. With a focus on skills development and community engagement, the Nextdoor Nature Pioneers Programme aims to empower individuals to take action for wildlife in their local communities.
Empowering Conservation Champions
The Nextdoor Nature Pioneers Programme is a unique opportunity for individuals in the Forth Valley area to enhance their knowledge, skills, and confidence when it comes to organizing conservation projects. Through a combination of online learning, interactive web-based seminars, and in-person events, participants will be equipped with the tools they need to make a tangible impact on the environment.
Pete Haskell, head of communications and engagement at the trust, emphasizes the importance of community involvement in conservation efforts. He states, “Plenty of people want to do more to help wildlife but knowing where to start can be a major barrier. Through the Pioneers Programme, we are providing participants with the broad range of skills and understanding required to mobilize their communities to take action for nature.”

As part of the programme, each participant will have the opportunity to lead a community project that benefits both wildlife and people. These projects could include the creation of community gardens, the establishment of wildlife ponds, or the improvement of valuable river habitats. The first cohort of the programme, focusing on the Glasgow area, is already underway, with participants actively working on their community projects. The recruitment of 12 individuals for the second cohort in the Forth Valley area signifies the expansion of the programme’s reach and impact.
