Midfielder George Dobson is set to make his debut for Wrexham AFC as they kick off their League One season at The STōK Racecourse tomorrow against Wycombe Wanderers at 5.30pm.
Originally, Dobson had signed a pre-contract agreement with Fehérvár in Hungary back in January while playing for Charlton Athletic. However, due to changes in his circumstances, the contract was mutually terminated, leading him to join Wrexham.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, who previously worked with Dobson at Sunderland, played a key role in securing the deal. Dobson expressed his excitement about joining the team and highlighted his attributes as an energetic player comfortable on the ball, a ball-winner, and a leader.
Dobson is one of six new signings for Wrexham, including goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo. The team has experienced back-to-back promotions, and the addition of these new players aims to strengthen the squad.
During the pre-season tour of North America, Dobson had the opportunity to bond with his new teammates and experience the support of Wrexham fans. He mentioned the positive atmosphere within the team and the excitement of playing at The Racecourse.
Supporters are eagerly anticipating the season opener, with owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds showing their commitment to the club. Manager Phil Parkinson praised the owners for their involvement and support, noting the positive impact on the team.
Star striker Paul Mullin, who has been recovering from an injury, is back running on the training ground and will be present at the game to support his teammates. The strong support from fans over the years has been crucial for the team’s success.
As Wrexham prepares for their first game of the season, the anticipation is high among players, staff, and supporters. The team’s recent achievements and new signings have generated excitement and optimism for the upcoming campaign. Fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead as Wrexham AFC aims for continued success in League One.
