SP Energy Networks Warriors Championship Kicks Off
The 2023 SP Energy Networks Warriors Championship is set to kick off at Scotstoun Stadium, the home of the Glasgow Warriors, on Tuesday, February 21. This year, Wallace High will be among the record number of Scottish schools participating in the championship, with around 1,200 young people from 29 schools across four rugby regions gearing up to showcase their skills on the pitch.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles and Community Engagement
Since its inception in 2015, more than 4,000 young people have participated in the championship, which aims to promote healthy lifestyles, teamwork, leadership, positive mental health, and communication. SP Energy Networks, the driving force behind the program, is dedicated to raising awareness and improving access to grassroots-level rugby while supporting local communities.
Vicky Kelsall, CEO at SP Energy Networks, highlighted the importance of initiatives like the Warriors Championship in empowering young people and fostering a sense of community pride. By breaking down barriers to sports participation, the championship encourages more and more young individuals to get involved in rugby each year.
Glasgow Warriors’ Partnership with SP Energy Networks
Al Kellock, Managing Director of Glasgow Warriors, expressed excitement about partnering with SP Energy Networks for the championship. He emphasized the significance of promoting healthy living and introducing rugby to young people across different regions, including the West, Caledonia, and Glasgow.
Kellock hopes that the experience gained through the championship will inspire participants to continue their rugby journey beyond the competition, fostering a lifelong love for the sport. With the support of SP Energy Networks and Glasgow Warriors, the championship serves as a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and build lasting connections through rugby.
As the championship unfolds over eight weeks, culminating in the final at Scotstoun Stadium in May, the stage is set for young athletes to shine and embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Good luck to all the teams competing in the 2023 SP Energy Networks Warriors Championship!
