So, there’s this documentary about a young footballer who had a pretty rough time but managed to bounce back, thanks to a surgeon from Stirlingshire. The film follows Professor Gordon Mackay and a teenager named Ethan Walker as they embark on a cycling journey together.

Ethan, a talented football player from Aberdeenshire, was all set for a scholarship in the USA when a nasty road accident messed everything up. He ended up with a bunch of fractures, two brain bleeds, and his right knee completely out of whack. Enter Professor Mackay, who worked his magic and helped Ethan get back on his feet.

In the documentary, Ethan and the professor take on a big challenge – cycling all the way from Hampden to Munich. This journey is a symbol of Ethan’s recovery, happening just nine months after his accident. He’s even planning to make it in time for Scotland’s match against Germany in Euro 2024, carrying the team pennant all the way on his back. The pennant was given to him by Andy Robertson, the captain of the national team.

After premiering at the Glasgow Film Festival, the documentary is now heading to the MacRobert Arts Centre on June 7 in Stirling. Both Ethan and Professor Mackay will be there, along with former player John Colquhoun. It’s going to be quite the event, with a lot of inspiring stories to share.
