Supporting Community Groups with Smoking Cessation Assistance

GROUPS across Clackmannanshire and Stirling are being called to action to apply for funding and support aimed at educating about the harms caused by smoking. The community initiatives across Forth Valley will receive a grant of £500 and tailored assistance to enhance the mental, physical, and financial well-being of people they work with who smoke. This initiative is part of Scotland’s Charter for a Tobacco-Free Generation by 2034 and is made possible by health charity ASH Scotland.

Encouraging Healthier Communities

Groups that are successful in their applications will have the opportunity to sign the charter and commit to three actions to improve the health of the individuals they serve. Sheila Duffy, the chief executive of ASH Scotland, emphasized the importance of supporting groups in areas of multiple deprivation. These groups often work with individuals facing significant health challenges, such as poverty, mental health issues, homelessness, young carers, or those with care experience.

Deadline for Applications

The deadline to apply for this funding and support is Monday, February 20. Interested groups can reach out via email at enquiries@ashscotland.org.uk or visit the ASH Scotland website for more information on the application process and requirements.

Taking Steps Towards a Healthier Future

By actively participating in this initiative, community groups have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of individuals who smoke. The grant and tailored assistance provided can help these groups implement effective smoking cessation programs and support services, ultimately contributing to the goal of creating a tobacco-free generation in Scotland by 2034.

In a world where smoking-related illnesses continue to pose a significant public health challenge, the efforts of community groups in Clackmannanshire and Stirling are commendable. Their dedication to educating about the dangers of smoking and providing support to those looking to quit is a vital step towards building healthier and smoke-free communities. Let’s support these groups in their mission to promote well-being and reduce the harmful effects of smoking on individuals and society as a whole. Together, we can work towards a healthier future for all.
