A new Return to Work Service has been introduced by NHS Forth Valley to assist individuals who are struggling to get back to work after a period of illness. This service, which was previously only available through referrals during the Covid-19 pandemic, is now open to all without the need for a referral.

The aim of this initiative is to offer support in the form of vocational rehabilitation, mental health assistance, counseling, and physiotherapy. It is especially beneficial for individuals who have been on extended sick leave and may be feeling uncertain about their ability to return to their previous job.

Amanda Champan, the team lead at NHS Forth Valley, emphasized the importance of this service for individuals who have lost confidence and fear they may not be able to meet the physical demands of their job. This service is also valuable for self-employed individuals who do not have access to occupational health services, as well as those who are managing work while dealing with an illness.

The support provided through this service is both free and confidential. It includes quick access to assessments, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, counseling, and guidance on accessing other relevant services. Additionally, individuals will receive assistance in developing return to work action plans and communicating with their employers and colleagues to ensure a smooth transition back to work.

According to Amanda, accepting support can expedite the return-to-work process and reduce costs for employers. Simply having someone to talk to can have a significant impact on an individual’s recovery journey, as addressing work-related challenges, whether physical or emotional, can greatly improve their overall well-being.

This service comes as a valuable resource for individuals looking to make a successful return to work after a period of illness. By providing a range of support options and facilitating communication between employees and employers, NHS Forth Valley is helping to ease the transition back to the workplace and promote overall well-being for workers in the region.
