Clacks Veteran’s Play to Debut in Dunblane

A moving and poignant play adapted from an original story by the late Wee County veteran, David Gray, is set to make its debut in Dunblane this month. The play, titled Archie’s Issues, will be performed by Forth Valley Creative Veterans at Queen Victoria School from March 15 to March 19.

David Gray, a Blackgrange resident and Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders veteran, sadly passed away on November 11 last year. However, his legacy lives on through this powerful adaptation of his military experiences spanning over 50 years. From the battlegrounds of St Valery, Northern France, in 1940 to the streets of Grangemouth in the 1990s, the play promises to take audiences on an emotional journey through history.

### Honoring a Local Hero
David Gray was not only a veteran but also a well-known artist, writer, and entrepreneur in the community. His dedication to preserving the memory of the Argylls is evident in his efforts to renew the regiment’s memorial atop Dumyat in 2015. The play, adapted by Sean McGinlay and sponsored by the Forth Valley branch of SSAFA, celebrates David’s life and contributions to the arts and armed forces.

### Bringing David’s Story to Life
Forth Valley Creative Veterans, a group of veterans and emergency services personnel passionate about the arts, will collaborate with senior pupils from Dunblane school to deliver heartfelt performances of Archie’s Issues. The play, known for its gritty humor, compassion, and authenticity, received accolades during its premiere last summer, leaving audiences moved and inspired.

### A Legacy of Resilience and Creativity
Despite his passing, David Gray’s impact on the community continues to resonate. His commitment to honoring the Argylls through art and storytelling is a testament to his resilience and creativity. The audience can expect an unforgettable theatrical experience that pays tribute to a local hero and his remarkable journey.

Archie’s Issues will run at Queen Victoria School from March 15 to March 19, with doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. A minimum donation of £5 per person is requested, with all proceeds supporting Forth Valley Creative Veterans.
